Our city tour of Cusco is an ideal option for people who want to learn a little more about the Inca and colonial culture. You will see Q’oricancha, the Incan Sun Temple, as well as the Incan sites of Sacsayhuaman, Q’enqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay an ancient Incan water temple.
Your guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel at 1:00 pm to begin the tour. From here you will head to the Plaza de Armas where you will visit the famous cathedral. After touring this sacred church, you will continue on foot from the Plaza de Armas through an ancient Inca built street to the Q’oricancha or Temple of the Sun. At Q’oricancha you will see the clash between Incan culture and Catholicism . Inca construction is truly amazing, and this temple is known as the key spiritual center of the Incas from which all roads lead to the four quarters of the Incan empire. A high alter made of bronze is a definite highlight. From Q’oricancha you group will walk down Avenida el Sol where you will hop a bus to travel 25 minutes outside the city to reach the majestic Inca site of Sacsayhuaman. This site boasts enigmatic monoliths weighing as much as 200 tons. Your guide will describe this phenomenal site and you’ll have time to do a bit of exploring on your own. From Sacsayhuaman it’s a 5-minute bus ride to Q’enqo, an Inca site with fascinating Incan alters. After a short visit here, we’ll go on to Puca Pucara, a small circular Inca site a further 5 minutes away. The final stop on our tour is Tambomachay, a water temple with its impressive water fountains, thought to be used by the Incas for bathing. We’ll then head back to Cusco where the tour ends in the main square, unless you are taking a private tour, in which case you will be returned to your hotel.
