The Sacred Valley was one of the most important places for the Incas. Its climate is ideal for agriculture of all kinds which flourishe in the region. On this tour you will see and learn about the construction of important cities such as Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero.
The tour of the Sacred Valley is a must when visiting the region of Cusco. En route you will see many beautiful Inca sites similar to Machu Picchu and you will discover charming and picturesque villages throughout the valley.
We get an early start to our day and will pick you up at your hotel around 6:30 a.m. Our first stop is an archeological center called Chincheros, a great spot to buy artisanal, clothing made by locals. After a bit of shopping, we will travel to Moray, an experimental archeological agricultural center. A further 10 minute drive will bring us to Salineras de Maras, a local salt mine which boasts thousands of individual salt pools on a hillside that date back to the Incan times. By mid-day we will reach the beautiful town of Ollantaytambo, pronounced Oh-yan-tay-tam-bo, with its Inca-era cobblestoned streets and the Urubamba river running throughout the town. This site is known for the Ollantaytambo ruins, a massive Inca fortress with large stone terraces on a hillside where many battles were fought because of its strategic location in the mountains and near the jungle. After visiting the town, we will travel approximately 30 minutes to reach the town of Urubamba where we will have a Peruvian buffet lunch with dishes typical of the area. In the afternoon, a one-hour drive will bring us to Pisca in the south of the valley, situated on the Vilcanota River and our last stop on the tour. This archeological site is best known for its Incan ruins where many traditional rituals were conducted to honour Pachamama o mother earth , a goddess revered by the Incas. On Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays take in the lively handicraft market in the main town square. Following this last stop, we will travel back to Cusco where we should arrive at approximately 7:00 p.m.
